OnePlus 12 5G was recently launched in India at a starting price of Rs 64,999. I just got my hands on the new OnePlus flagship device, so if you’re planning to buy one soon, read on for a detailed review.
In terms of design, the new OnePlus 12 looks remotely similar to the OnePlus 11. In my opinion, the previous generation did a lot of good things, but you can’t fix what’s not broken. What I like about this smartphone is that it is not itself.
In an age where smartphones are getting thinner and lighter and becoming more versatile with every new feature, this smartphone is huge. I reviewed the Flowy Emerald colour variant with a matte coating on the back and I think it will be very useful for you. It doesn’t look like anything else on the market, so there are all the signs of it breaking the law and disrupting the place, but it looks a bit marble-y to me and perhaps just isn’t my style.
OnePlus 12 comes with three rear cameras installed by Hasselblad. This is similar to the setup we saw on the OnePlus Open foldable phone. However, the selfie camera on the front is no longer a 16MP sensor but a 32MP camera. When it comes to camera quality, I haven’t experienced any malfunctions and it works fine. The Hasselblad-powered camera produces truly amazing colours and great results.
The triple rear camera setup includes a 50 MP main sensor, a 64 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. You can easily get 6x zoom without cropping on this optical lens. It works well for movies, but this may be a bit disappointing for creators who like to use wide-angle shots as there’s no 0.5X option.
As for the display, it has a 6.82-inch QHD + LTPO display that provides a 120Hz refresh rate and supports ProXDR and Dolby Vision. You can stream your favourite videos or watch content on this smartphone. The device performs well in both indoor and outdoor environments. This is because it has a maximum brightness of 4,500 nits, which is still the highlight of the device. It comes with the same curved shape on the edges; I like this because every other company is launching an iPhone, but OnePlus has its twist.
Now, if you are selling smartphones in India in 2024 and have gone a long way to breaking the logjam like I think OnePlus has done, then you need to have good software and hardware to support it.
OnePlus 12 is equipped with a new technology called Aqua Touch, which is only IP65 water and dust-resistant, one level lower than IP68. But this Aqua Touch technology is amazing. It will be interesting to try it in Mumbai monsoon.
With some updates, we have seen in OnePlus Open and now in OnePlus 12, we can easily say that these features will make your life easier on OxygenOS. I think the OnePlus 12 works very well. It also offers 3D spatial audio, Dolby Atmos support and more, making it truly immersive.
One of the things OxygenOS needs to do is make sure the device has a good battery and is running well in the background. OnePlus 12 has a 5,400 mAh battery and supports 100W Super VOOC fast charging and 50W wireless charging support. It can go from 0 to 100 in 30 minutes. OnePlus will give you software updates for the device for 5 years, which is pretty good.
Price-wise, OnePlus 12 is priced at Rs 64,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model and Rs 69,999 for the 16GB + 512GB model.
Conclusion
As I said before, the company did not compromise with the OnePlus 12. They haven’t fully decided yet, but they haven’t released any AI features like the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. However, if you don’t have the budget for the high-end Galaxy S24 Ultra model or the iPhone 15
Pro Max but still want the best performance, the OnePlus 12 is a good choice. It has good performance, a good camera and a good software experience.
Now if you have a tighter budget but still want to get value for money, you can go for the OnePlus 12R which is priced at Rs 39,999. OnePlus 12 is the best product you can choose to buy in 2024, but with all the new AI features coming to market, the company will need to improve in many areas with new software coming soon.
